Welcome to the Internet home page of the Celtica association. It contains information about the association's activity, reports on its participation in various shows and craft fairs, as well as text based on historical sources, dealing with chosen aspects of Celtic life.
The most important information is in the section entitled "About Us" ["O nas"]. We also present a series of photographs, succesively expanded, as well as a list of publications devoted to Celts. All the books mentioned in it are in our possession and we use them as a source of information about Celtic life and culture. The Stall [link "Nasze kramy"] offers woven belts, costumes and mixtures of herbs - exactly the same as in the photographs or to meet individual orders. All the additional information, including answers to questions, can be obtained from the Internet Forum [link "Karczma"].
CELTICA is an open group of Celtic culture enthusiasts which started in 2002. It was then that the first Internet site and the first forum appeared. Thanks to the Internet we managed to reach various people, irrespective of their age, education or the place of living. The following year was devoted to making contacts, exchanging informations and making first attempts at cooperation.
In 2004 a new stage of our activity started. That year, on July 2, the Celtica Association was officially registered in the National Court Register in Warsaw. At present it has about 20 members, involved in work on several projects. We come from different parts of Poland and represents various age group and various kinds education.
The aim of the Association is to obtain and to propagate the knowledge of Celtic culture and its influence on other ethnic groups throughout centuries.
Our activities include:
- experiments in recreating Celtic craftsmen's techniques as well as chosen aspects of Celtic life in past centuries;
- participation in open air events, exhibitions, fairs, workshops, historical and folk festivals;
- work on the Internte page, which is both a tool of education and of communication between people sharing common interests.
REENACTMENT GROUP
Celtic civilisation covered the period of over 1000 turbulent years. The activities of the Reenactment Group will concentrate on the period starting with Ceasar's Campaign and ending with Boudicca's Rebelion, which fell on the end of the era. It was also a turning point in Celtic culture - the beginning of a strong Roman influence.
At the moment we have a group working on costumes, crafts, Celtic cuisine and herb cultivation. Work is also in progress on reconstructing the kit of hunters, fishermen and warriors of that time. Our Reenactment Group will participate in living history display, workshops, historical and folk festivals.
THE INTERNET SERVICE
CELTICA is also working on a project of the Internet Service which will present information on Celtic history and culture. It will also contain a timetable of interesting events connected with our subjects as well as reports on the ones that have already taken place. We would also like it to be an effective means of communication between people sharing common interests.
OTHER PROJECTS
We are planning to print our own publications, edit educational material in electronic form (CD, DVD), organise lessons of 'live history' for schools, trips and meetings for the members of our association as well as for outsiders.
We are open to any new ideas. If you are interested in joining our association, get in touch with us: celtica@celtica.pl
